Yep, that’s right. A book is judged by its cover and an article by its title, whatsoever!

A post’s title is what grabs a reader’s attention; it should compel them to stop, do a double-take and click on your post.

If this post was titled Points to keep in mind while writing, would you have clicked on it or scrolled away?

Instead of leaving the title for the end, start thinking about it right from the beginning. In fact, you can spend as much time as you want in your title.

2. The First Paragraph Should Grab the Readers by the Ears

Figuratively, of course.

Focus more on the first paragraph of your article, especially the first two lines. They should be the spider’s web that ensnares your readers into reading more. Any lesser than that, most readers will simply drop off your blog like flies.

While writing great content with all the stats and facts is undoubtedly good, content writers must give equal weight to making it more interesting.

Do This:

Separate wheat from the chaff. Don’t write something just for the sake of writing. Try to think like a reader for a second. Would these lines persuade my reader into reading more? If not, hit backspace and rewrite until it sounds catchy enough to grab eyeballs.

The first type is the ideal reader, aka the researcher, who reads each line, spends time on the page and stays till the last line.

A reader who makes writing paragraphs and paragraphs of explanations worth the while.

Then, there are those we call skimmers. They do exactly what we say they do. They scan the picture, read the first lines, skim through the bullet points and leave. And, as hard as it is to admit, this is the type of audience we have to organize the article for.

Do this instead:

Since MOST of the audience out there consists of skimmers, a write-up has to pack a punch.

You have to structure your article in such a way that skimmers can gather the gist of it at a glance. For example, the bullet points should be consistent with the subheads and really important stuff in the text can be highlighted.

Believe me, people, as long as the Internet is there, there is SEO. And, if you really want your articles to rank, make them as SEO-friendly as possible. And NO, you don’t need an SEO-specialist to get that done.

What is the first thought that pops to head when you think of a book with small font and no pictures? Boring?

The aesthetics are something under your control even while your site competes with a billion others on the Internet. Even if the content has high readability and an interesting premise, it might pass off as boring if there isn’t a break every so often.
